Charter school loses right to purchase property at Ocoee City Commission

Residents who attended the Oct. 20 Ocoee City Commission meeting had a difficult time holding in their applause as developers of the CSUSA Charter School lost their right to purchase the property located along Clarke Road and Ocoee Vista Parkway.

The developer's contract had an inspection period that was set to expire last Friday. The developer, in order to obtain the special exception for school use, had asked for an extension of the inspection period until Nov. 3 and also requested to move the special exception hearing to Nov. 3.

Commissioner Rosemary Wilsen made a motion to vote on the extension of the contract—but it failed as it did not receive a second. Because the contract was not extended, developers lost the right to purchase the property.

“Are we allowed to applaud in here?” someone called from the audience.

• The Crystal Investments Assisted Living Facility and Ocoee Landings both got the green light as commissioners approved the rezoning of the properties to planned unit developments. Commissioners also approved the land use plan and the development agreement for both properties. The Crystal Investments Assisted Living Facility, located on the northwest corner of Silver Star Road and Ridgefield Avenue, will be home to a one-story, 60-bed assisted living facility and memory care unit. Ocoee Landings, located on the northeast corner of Silver Star Road and Lake Johio Drive, will be a mixed-use development with 9.15 acres of residential property as well as 6.89 acres of commercial property.
• The commission approved the final payment of $77,500 for the entertainment at the 2015 Founders’ Day Celebration.
