City of Ocoee to host Veterans Day Ceremony

The city of Ocoee will celebrate its Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Ocoee Lakeshore Center. 

According to a press release, this will be the first time the city holds an in-person ceremony since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The ceremony will include remarks from First Sgt. Espeut-Jones, a retired combat veteran who served in the U.S. Army for 22 years. Nowadays, Espeut-Jones serves on the City of Orlando and Orange County Mayor's Veterans Advisory Councils. 

"She is an active member of the Orlando Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club and rides a 2013 Can-Am Spyder motorcycle," the agenda read.

Among the awards that Sgt. Espeut-Jones has received are the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Army Achievement Medal, Army Accommodation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expedition Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. 

Ocoee resident Sherri Gladney will be in attendance at the event to sing the National Anthem while the Ocoee Middle School Wind Ensemble will play a small repertoire of songs and a member of the high school band will play Taps. 

Both the Ocoee Police and Fire Department Honor Guards will be in attendance to perform the presentation of colors and carry a wreath that will be placed at the city’s Memorial Wall. 

Those in attendance will be able to enjoy some refreshments after the ceremony.
