Observer All-Area Teams: Softball

A year after the season was shortened by COVID-19, local high school teams took to the diamond and made the 2021 softball season one to remember.

This past season offered up everything and then some — from Windermere Prep’s dominant run to a state title runner-up finish, to big games by big-time players.

This week, we honor the best in softball with the Observer All-Area teams.
 

CO-PLAYERS OF THE YEAR: Gracie Wallace, Windermere Prep; Hannah Harper, TFA
 

COACH OF THE YEAR: Wes Pollock, Windermere Prep
 

FIRST TEAM

Gracie Wallace, Windermere Prep, junior

Stats: 167 IP, 0.54 ERA, 25-2, 326 strikeouts, gave up only 15 earned runs all season

Quick hit: Gracie Wallace was lights out in the circle and helped lead the Lakers to their first state title-game appearance.
 

Mia Williams, Windermere Prep, sophomore

Stats: .558 average, 27 RBIs, 40 runs, 21 extra-base hits

Quick hit: The Florida commit was a big-time hitter for the Lakers this past season.
 

Ailey Schyck, West Orange, junior

Stats: .436 average, 26 RBIs, 20 runs, 14 extra-base hits (eight homers)

Quick Hit: A leader for the Warriors, Ailey Schyck racked up some of the team’s best offensive numbers.
 

Hannah Harper, TFA, junior

Stats: .542 average, 29 RBIs, 39 runs, 30 extra-base hits (23 doubles); 153.2 IP, 1.32 ERA, 194 strikeouts

Quick hit: In the circle and at the plate, Hannah Harper did it all for the Royals during a truly stellar season.
 

Avery Velazquez, Legacy, freshman

Stats: .507 average, 33 RBIs, 44 runs, 18 extra-base hits; 110 IP, 3.82 ERA, 6-9, 116 strikeouts

Quick hit: One of the handful to hit over .500 this season, Avery Velazquez did everything right for the Eagles.
 

Shannon Weems, Olympia, sophomore

Stats: .484 average, 23 RBIs, 16 runs, 19 extra-base hits (16 doubles)

Quick hit: A big-time power hitter, Shannon Weems made contact with just about every ball thrown her way.
 

Madison Velazquez, Legacy, freshman

Stats: .533 average, 39 RBIs, 31 runs, 22 extra-base hits (seven homers)

Quick hit: Madison Velazquez proved to be one of the most consistent players this past season, leading the Eagles in multiple offensive categories.
 

Emilie Ching, Windermere, freshman

Stats: .400 average, second in slugging just under .530, led team in runs scored, second in RBIs

Quick hit: On a team of young talent, freshman Emilie Ching stood out by leading the Wolverines at the plate.
 

Madison Carr, Windermere Prep, junior

Stats: .427 average, 35 RBIs, 29 runs, 13 extra-base hits (11 doubles)

Quick hit: The power of Madison Carr was a big factor in the Lakers tearing their way through a big year.
