School Board seeks public input in search for next superintendent

Community forums are planned at seven high schools, including West Orange.

As the search for the next superintendent of Orange County Public Schools begins for the ninth largest school district in the country, seven community forums have been scheduled to allow for public input. There will be two additional meetings, by invitation, for community partners and students.

Parents, employees and community stakeholders also will be able to complete a survey that will be open from March 28 through April 8. School Board members would like as much input as possible as they move forward with the approved search timeline.

Participants will be able to provide input in three areas: the strengths of OCPS, the critical needs and challenges facing OCPS, and the personal qualities and professional experience needed by the next OCPS superintendent.

Community forums will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. March 22 through April 5 in the following high school media centers: University High, March 22; Edgewater, March 23; Freedom, March 28; West Orange, March 29; Jones, March 30; Apopka, March 31; Lake Nona, April 5.

The public is welcome to attend any meeting in person or via live stream at bit.ly/3Kyvrfz. The webpage, ocps.net, also provides a timeline plus all materials and resources throughout the process.
