Maitland eighth-grader honored

Students from Orlando Science Schools won sixth place at the 2012 Science Olympiad National Tournament in Orlando. Elizabeth Martin of Apopka, Daniella Gutierrez of Dr. Phillips and Raquel Guerrero of Maitland — all eighth-graders — received sixth place in the “Experimental Design” category. Orlando Science Schools students also won first place at the Regional Science Olympiad Competition, and first and third places at the Florida Science Olympiad — the pre-qualifying tournaments that led them to the national competition, which took place at the University of Central Florida. Full Sail films NBA Finals sequence

Full Sail University collaborated with ESPN and production company Habana Avenue to produce the opening sequence for the 2012 NBA Finals. The sequence began airing on June 12 during ESPN and ABC’s opening night NBA Finals coverage. The professional multiday shoot took place at Full Sail Live, the university’s on-campus performance and production facility, and included ESPN and Habana Avenue staff, as well as four Full Sail University staff members and 12 students.

Upcoming model casting calls for fashion week

Harriett’s Park Avenue Fashion Week (PAFW) is seeking male and female runway and hair models for the sixth annual celebration of fashion and design in Winter Park. Model casting calls will be held on Saturday, July 21, and Saturday, July 28, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Winter Park Welcome Center/ Chamber of Commerce, 151 W. Local residents receive academic honors

Jesse Carl Smith V of Winter Park has been named to the President’s List at Clemson University for the spring 2012 semester. Smith V is majoring in financial management.

Grace Gibson McNair of Maitland graduated from Samford University during spring commencement. McNair earned a Bachelor of Arts.

Rebekah Lynn Erwin of Winter Park has been named to the Dean’s List at Clemson University for the spring 2012 semester. Erwin is majoring in graphic communications.

New exhibit to show WPHS through the years

“Growing Up Wildcat: Winter Park High School Through the Years” will open an interactive experience at the Winter Park Historical Museum on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013. The WPHA is looking for the following items to be loaned for the exhibition: memorabilia, photos, videos, yearbooks (donation only) and memories/stories from 1917-present. Countdown to Winter Park’s 125th anniversary continues

The 125-day countdown to the city of Winter Park’s 125th anniversary started June 9 and continues until Friday, Oct. 12. For the next 125 days, the city will be posting historical facts on Facebook and Twitter reminding the community about its rich and interesting history. The city has launched a new 125th anniversary button on the home page of its official website, cityofwinterpark.org highlighting all of the celebrations and events, and providing historical resources and pertinent information associated with this milestone.
