The season isn’t over yet for the Florida Collegiate Summer League, getting an injection of international competition into its schedule.
Despite the FCSL championship already passing by, with the Dawgs winning it all and repeating as champs for the first time in league history, the league has added five games. Consider it a second all-star game bonus: A collection of FCSL all-stars are hosting the Korean National Collegiate Team, picked from the best professional prospect players from across South Korea.
"It's their best players from 13 teams," FCSL President Rob Sitz said. "They're the best of the best."
Some of the players are already signing contracts with pro teams in Korea, which has been a recent hotbed for Major League Baseball imports. That meshes well with the talent level of the FCSL, which fields top college-aged MLB prospects looking for a shot at more playing time in a wooden bat league, co-sponsored by the big leagues.
It's all starting off Tuesday, Aug. 5, with a $7 deal giving you a ticket, a burger and a beer in Sanford.
Aug. 5 and 9 the Koreans play in Sanford at 7 p.m. At 7 p.m. on Aug. 6 they play in DeLand. At 6 p.m. Aug. 8 and 5 p.m. Aug. 10 they play in Leesburg.
