The town of Oakland’s 8th Annual Triple “A” Multicultural Festival is this Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14. This music and arts fest features family-friendly entertainment and celebrates African-American history.
The festival is spearheaded by Oakland Town Commissioner Joseph “Patrick” McMullen, CEO and founder of HAPCO Music Foundation. The non-profit foundation promotes the importance of arts and music in education. The event schedule includes:
• Florida Highwaymen artist R.L. Lewis presenting a youth art clinic from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the Oakland Nature Preserve, 747 Machete Trail.
• an Honoree VIP Reception scheduled for 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Oakland Town Center, 221 N. Arrington St. This year’s honorees are the Rotary Club of Winter Garden, which serves the community alongside leaders of other businesses and professions, and the late Mildred Dixon, a former Winter Garden city commissioner who promoted unity and diversity.
• an Art Festival scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at Speer Park, 331 N. Tubb St. The day will include collard greens cooking demonstrations; a health and wellness seminar; vendors; and live performances by Mud Rooster, Liza Marie, CeCe Teneal, Silkee Smoove and Bare Maximum.
