GALLERY: Backpack Giveaway

Several communities came together Saturday to provide backpacks and school supplies to about 250 students in West Orange County. The city of Winter Garden, town of Oakland and Orange County helped local children prepare for their first day of school Aug. 24.

Tildenville Missionary Baptist Church opened its doors for the event, and organizations such as Orange County Community Action and Just 1 Book were set up outside to offer services and free books.

Volunteers included Oakland Commissioner Joseph McMullen, Winter Garden Commissioner Bobby Olszewski, Sebrenia Brown of the Winter Garden Recreation Department and Orange County District 1 Commissioner Scott Boyd, who provided most of the funds for the backpack giveaway.
