WINTER GARDEN The West Orange Warriors outscored the Wekiva Mustangs 43-28 in the second half of a district contest Dec. 10, but it wasn't quite enough to offset a slow start that saw the Mustangs leading by 18 points after just one quarter.
Though a furious comeback attempt got West Orange within a basket of Wekiva several times, the Mustangs held on for a 65-62 win over the Warriors (1-6).
"That third quarter, you know, we just decided we wanted to play," head coach Eric Jones said. "It's the little things on defense that I don't feel like we've been doing well enough."
Though West Orange has six losses thus far, the Warriors have played competitively against a tough schedule that has included a double-overtime loss to Evans and four-point loss to Windermere Prep, the No. 2 team in the state in Class 3A.
West Orange returns to action Dec. 11 at Ocoee.
