Rollins College men’s lacrosse player Will Hauver ’15 passed away suddenly Monday afternoon. The cause of death is still unknown, according to the Winter Park Police Department. Hauver was a senior captain for the Tars, who were set to begin their 2015 season Thursday at Young Harris.
After Acting President Craig McAllaster informed the campus community of Hauver’s passing, Director of Athletics Pennie Parker issued the following statement on behalf of Rollins athletics: “Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family, teammates, and friends of Will Hauver. He was a leader, not just on the lacrosse team, but also throughout the entire campus. He will be greatly missed.”
A native of Towson, Maryland, Hauver played in 46 games the past three seasons, recording 13 goals and five assists. He was also actively involved with the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Hauver was set to graduate in May with a degree in communication studies.
“Words cannot express the sense of loss and sadness this lacrosse program and over all Rollins community feels over the loss of one of our own,” said Rollins men’s lacrosse head coach RJ Rossi. “Will Hauver was a charismatic, witty, and artistic young man. He had many talents on and off the field that are irreplaceable. His leadership and friendship will be missed. Our lacrosse team is a close-knit family. We will rebound and play our hearts out for Will this season as soon as our players are ready to do so. I want to thank all of the lacrosse community for your calls, texts, posts, and emails to check in on us. We are grateful for the support.”
