WINDERMERE — The Dr. Phillips boys lacrosse team (2-4) topped the previously undefeated Windermere Prep Lakers (3-1) on Wednesday, 16-3.
“It went well, as we expected,” Panthers head coach Charlie Battaglini said. “They’ve (Windermere) got a good group of athletic kids and these guys (Dr. Phillips) have had a tough stretch lately so I’m just glad they performed at a good level.”
The Panthers were ahead from the start, with a 6-0 lead going into the second quarter and a 12-1 advantage going into the half.
The Lakers were never able to recover and take the lead, dropping a game for the first time this season. Regardless of the score, the Lakers did not ease up on their efforts against Dr. Phillips, something Windermere Prep head coach JoJo Marasco was pleased with.
“I’m happy with the guys, they didn’t give up,” Marasco said.
Dr. Phillips’ Ian Decker had five goals and two assists, followed by Mike Berkman with one goal to pair with four assists and Nick Forward and Jason Sullivan each contributed two goals and two assists.
Scoring two goals for the Lakers was Kevin Babich and Davis Crayner had the third.
The Panthers will face Lake Nona on Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. and the Lakers will play Freedom on March 3 at 7 p.m.
