ORLANDO — The Winter Park Wildcats girls lacrosse team scored first in each half on Wednesday night.
Fortunately for the host Olympia Titans, the No. 4 team in the state, those were the only goals the Wildcats scored all evening.
The Titans (6-0) went on an 8-0 run in response to the Wildcats' (3-2) first goal and never looked back en route to an 18-2 win. And, while the offense for Olympia was plenty impressive, it was the defense that was the star on Wednesday night.
"Winter Park is a quality team and to hold them to two goals — that's all about defense," senior attacker Ashley Aken said.
Head coach Elyse DeLisle praised her girls afterward for continuing to improve and play enthusiastically as the season progresses.
"We really preach little things," DeLisle said. "Communication, ground balls; all those things were really on point tonight. I think that's what kind of kept us going and our momentum up. ...
"I think this is probably the best game we've seen out of our defense so far."
