DR. PHILLIPS — The Windermere Little League Red Sox broke out their bats on the evening of June 8 to defeat the Winter Garden Rays in five innings 11-1 in the Majors (age 11-12) Championship Game of the District 14 Top Team Tournament.
The game took place at Dr. Phillips Little League, which hosted the Majors tournament.
Home runs by J.T. Lewis and Devin Dittell helped spur the offensive outpouring for the Red Sox, while pitcher Owen Flynn tossed a complete game victory and struck out 10 hitters.
The lone run for the Rays came on a solo home run by Caitlyn Naginey in the top of the fourth inning.
Afterward, coach Mark Lewis praised the bottom of his order — which includes Dittell who, as a ninth hitter, hit his first home run of the season on Monday.
"The bottom half of our order ... really, toward the end of the season, got the focus and confidence out there swinging the bat," Mark Lewis said. "(Dittell) probably has three or four hits all season, so to come out and hit a home run shows me the confidence he has — and then he went out and hit another double and another single.
"That's why we win our games — because we've got everybody ready to hit."
The roster for the Red Sox includes Lewis, Dittell and Flynn as well as Nick Naso, Ethan Lewandowski, Axel Cabrera, Nolan McCall, Jaylen Carr, Cameren Becker, Aidan Pearson and Carlos Alemany.
The Rays, who finished as runner-up, include Bailey Chumbley, Caitlyn Naginey, Tyler Britt, Akash Shah, Cody Crigger, Matthew Wiggins, Chandler Evans, Grant Athens, Jose Ojeda and Nathan Burke.
