SANFORD — For the second time in as many days, the Olympia baseball team survived an exciting contest at the Florida League High School Invitational, edging Florida Christian, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium.
The win came less than 24 hours after a 2-run, walk-off double by Cameron Montgomery staved off what would have been the first loss of the season for the undefeated Titans (15-0), giving Olympia a 3-2 win over Niceville.
The Titans had led 3-0 going into the contest's final inning, when Florida Christian made its run. Florida Christian scored a pair of runs and had the tying and winning runs on base before Jake Senich got the final out to earn the three-inning save for Olympia with Jaylyn Whitehead earning the win.
"I was just thinking to make all my pitches count, (to) make them (Florida Christian) work for it," Senich said.
After two close calls, the Titans will take on Trinity Christian on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Seminole High School in Sanford.
"(Florida Christian) put some balls in play and there were some plays we didn't make," coach Chuck Schall said. "We're not really firing on all cylinders right now, we're kind of struggling a little bit — but we're still finding ways to win a ballgame."
