APOPKA Coming off of a 28-21 defeat in their Kickoff Classic, the Apopka Blue Darters were out to prove a point when they took the field against the Ocoee Knights for their opener.
Mission accomplished.
The Blue Darters (1-0) proved they’re still the perennial state championship contender as always, thrashing Ocoee (0-1) 62-7.
”I thought we did well,” Apopka head coach Rick Darlington said. “A lot of different guys got to touch the ball, do some good stuff. It was a good win.”
Blue Darters senior quarterback Demetri Burch, a University of South Florida commit, led the way for Apopka in throwing and running for two touchdowns in the first half. Cornelius Williams also ran for two touchdowns in the first half while senior DeShawn Massey tacked on one more rushing touchdown to put the Blue Darters up 50-7 by halftime.
For Apopka: The Blue Darters (1-0) will travel to College Park to take on the Edgewater Eagles (0-1). Edgewater was soundly defeated by neighborhood-rival Bishop Moore in Week One, 42-6.
For Ocoee: The Knights (0-1) will look to rebound when they take their home field to host Lake Nona. The Lions (1-0) narrowly edged Winter Park, 27-26, in their opener.
