WINTER GARDEN The Foundation Academy boys basketball team held on for an exciting victory Thursday night against nearby Legacy Charter, 47-43.
The Lions (2-2), who had led by double-digits earlier in the game, saw their lead disappear and even trailed by one point within the game's final two minutes after Legacy's Nathan Rodriguez scored a go-ahead bucket.
A put-back basket by Cash Martin put Foundation back ahead, 44-43, with 31 seconds left to play.
Moments later, on an inbounds play, Martin made a perfect pass to a streaking Jonathan Richardson who scored and was fouled, ultimately putting the Lions ahead 47-43 with 18.9 seconds remaining.
The well-executed inbounds play, drawn up during a timeout by first-year head coach Dejon Everson, helped Foundation secure a big win.
"I had everybody breaking certain ways and Cash made a great pass to Jonathan and Jonathan made a great finish," Everson said. "Kudos to those guys for executing and making me look good."
Richardson finished with a game-high 23 points.
Adam Puebla finished with a team-high 12 points for Legacy (1-2).
