WINTER GARDEN After having spent much of 2016 watching Winter Garden's Wawa go up, the wait was finally over for West Orange residents on Thursday, Dec. 22, when the convenience store and gas station officially opened for business. Grand-opening festivities started at 10 a.m. and drew a crowd of about 100 people, who got to enjoy a small "parade," learn a bit about the history of Wawa, listen to guest speakers and participate in the ribbon cutting. The store is the 107th in Florida.
Additionally, the Winter Garden Police Department and the Winter Garden Fire Rescue Department went head-to-head in a hoagie-building competition. WGFR won the title, and both organization were presented $1,000 checks for charities of their choice — the Winter Garden Police Athletic League and the American Cancer Society.
