Two community-minded West Orange-area juniors and seniors were selected as Bank of America’s 2016 Student Leaders.

Akylah Cox, a rising senior at Dr. Phillips High School, and Marquise Willis, West Orange High graduate and rising Seminole State College student, were selected from a group of nearly 100 students.

The students get to participate in an eight week internship with the Boys and Girls Club, as well as a summit in Washington D.C. with other student leaders, where leaders will participate in skills-building workshops, poverty simulation and service learning projects.

The internship is intended to prepare students for career success and strengthen opportunities for future employment and financial security, Bank of America officials say.

Cox wants to study environmental engineering at Duke University and looks forward to the summit.

“I’ve heard a lot about the Bank of America summit and how impactful it really is,” Cox said in a news release. “I look forward to networking and connecting to other Student Leaders from around the country.”
