During the school year, 22 million students across the U.S. receive free and reduced meals through their schools. But during summer, only 3.9 million kids participate in the USDA’s summer food program, according to feeding America.
Recognizing the problem, the Winter Garden Rants, Raves and Reviews Facebook group has teamed up with local businesses to collect sustainable food items for some of these students who are in need of food. Calling the drive the “No kids go hungry” campaign, the site asks that people donate items such as peanut butter, soup, ravioli and crackers. The group is actively seeking other locations to accept items. To add your business, join the Winter Garden Rants, Raves and Reviews Facebook group and message Sean O’Neill.
