The Winter Garden Little League Tournament of Champions went 5-1 during the District 14 Tournament and edged Ocoee in the championship, 9-8. Helping to lead the way for Winter Garden was Jason Cortese. Cortese hit .455 and stole 10 bases while throwing out six would-be base stealers as a catcher.

What was the championship game like against Ocoee?

That was the most exciting game I have played in. It was hard to stay focused. I just had to believe in my teammates.

Which pro baseball team is your favorite and who are your favorite players?

The New York Yankees. My dad’s favorite team is the Yankees, so I like them, too. My favorite players are Derek Jeter and Brett Gardner. Derek Jeter influenced me and Brett Gardner is a good player.

What is your favorite part of playing baseball?

Hitting. You can hit the ball, and if you get on base, you can steal.

What is the farthest you have hit a ball this season?

Probably to the fence — on the ground. That felt good.

What do you like to do with your free time?

Probably playing with my friends in the backyard. We play baseball and sometimes play in the pool.

When you’re at school, what’s your favorite subject?

I like math because it’s easy. This year, we learned division.

What other sports do you play?

I play basketball and football. I like baseball and football the best.

When you play football, what position do you play?

I play quarterback in flag football for the Bulldogs.

What is your least favorite chore around the house?

Cleaning my room.

If you can’t be a pro athlete, what is another job you would like to do when you grow up?

I want to be a builder.
