Sometime between the late evening hours of Saturday, May 21, and early Sunday, May 22, seven cars were broken into in the town of Oakland, according to police. All of the vehicles were on Millholland Street, Mather-Smith Drive and East Gulley Avenue.

Police said all had been left unlocked and miscellaneous items were stolen, including cash and a firearm. There were no witnesses, and at the present time, the Oakland Police Department has no known suspects.

A release issued by the OPD stated: “While many other cars were parked in the areas that were victimized, it is clear that the perpetrators were concentrating on those cars that were unlocked and easy to enter without detection.”

If anyone who lives in the areas that were targeted saw anything or anyone suspicious on the night that these burglaries occurred, they are asked to contact Detective Brandon McDonnell with the Oakland Police Department at (407) 656-9797.

“Please always lock your car if you are going to leave it anywhere for any length of time, no matter how short, unless it is in a secured garage,” police said. “It only takes a few seconds to lock and unlock your vehicle.  It only takes a few more seconds for someone to enter an unlocked car and rummage through the passenger compartment for items that belong to you.  With that said, we would discourage leaving any type of firearm in your vehicle, even if you to lock it.”
