As a freshman, West Orange High diver Courtney Russo placed seventh in the state in the girls 1-meter dive at the FHSSA Swimming and Diving Championships Nov. 5 in Stuart. Russo, who competes at the club level for YCF Diving, is now primed for an impressive career in her remaining three seasons of varsity competition.
It was exciting making it as a freshman, because not many freshmen make it to state.
About three years. I was a gymnast, and then I decided to try diving one day.
I’ve dived from 10 meters. It took me probably about a year-and-a-half to get up there. The first time, I was excited, but I was also really nervous to try it for the first time.
I always try and make the corrections my coaches give me at practice, and I practice every day and work hard.
I think it was states — having fun with my friends and doing well.
I look up to my coach and (former West Orange diver) Victoria Moretti.
My favorite subject is science. I just find it interesting. It’s interesting learning about genetics and all that stuff.
I like “Grey’s Anatomy.”
Probably Hawaii.
