APOPKA After racing out to an 18-6 lead early, and by as many as 20 points in the third quarter, the Olympia Titans boys basketball team managed the ebbs and flows of the game and ultimately held off a Lake Brantley rally to top the Patriots 71-62.
The contest marked the final game of the first day of the Metro vs. Florida Challenge at Apopka High Nov. 23.
The Titans' lead had dwindled to as little as five points with under three minutes to play, but Olympia (2-0) would hold a pair of big baskets late to seal the deal.
"We played with a lot of energy — that was the focus coming into the game," head coach Matt Wheeler said. "In the last couple minutes, I've got two really good point guards in Jordan Grant and Mykarri Hodges and I know nobody is going to get the ball out of their hands. They did a good job there under pressure."
Scoring-wise, the Titans were led by Amajeh Green's 25 points — including an impressive 5-of-7 shooting on 3-pointers.
"(Green has) been good at that — he had some big games last year shooting the three," Wheeler said. "I think he shot 35 or 40 percent (from beyond the arc) last year."
Mykarri Hodges had an additional 15 points for Olympia and Joe Milton, the Titans' star quarterback during football season, came off the bench to register a game-high 11 rebounds to pair with eight points.
