Obituary: Harry Fred Rogers

Harry Fred Rogers — May 1, 1930 – Nov. 27, 2016. Down the long road you went. Peace is now yours.

Born in Wetumpka, Oklahoma, on May 1, 1930, to the late Omer and Koie Rogers. The first born of 11 children, Harry grew up working on the cotton farm, and after graduation, he enlisted in the Navy. In 1953 he married Dorothy “Dottie” Garrett. Together they had three children while traveling and serving in the Navy for 21 years during the Korean and Vietnam War.

After retiring in 1968 he was manager for the KOA Kampground in Winter Garden until becoming a postal carrier in 1972. He retired in 1995, enabling him and Dottie to travel in their motor home. He enjoyed woodworking and garage-saling as hobbies and worked part time delivering medicine for the Medicine Shoppe until his health started to decline.

Dottie preceded him in death in 2013 after 60 years of marriage. He is survived by his sons, Greg (Nancy) Rogers, Howey-in-the-Hills, and Keith (Julie) Rogers of Florence, Alabama; and daughter Kathy (Danney) Robertson of Montverde. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Jessie, Mitch, Shannon, Corey and Justin; and four great-grandchildren. Survivors also include eight of his siblings in various parts of Texas, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, with a visitation at 2 p.m. and funeral service at 3 p.m.
