WINTER GARDEN The West Orange girls basketball team held off the visiting Evans Trojans Tuesday night, earning a 49-43 victory to improve to 5-2 on the season.
Afterward, West Orange first-year coach Shrell Chamberlain said some crucial stops from his defense were the difference.
"We got some great defensive stops from Morgan (Beacham) and Katelyn Kinney," Chamberlain said. "We just wanted to take care of the ball in the end."
Beacham also finished with 12 points and five steals for the Warriors.
Evans (1-2) was led by 21 points from Staci Miller.
The win is another strong sign early in the season for a roster full of underclassmen for West Orange.
"We're a young team — we're starting a lot of sophomores and freshmen," Chamberlain said. "We're just trying to continue that legacy and that culture of playing every game with a lot of heart and passion on the floor."
For the Warriors: at Wekiva - 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2
For the Trojans: vs. Timber Creek - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30
