DR. PHILLIPS The Dr. Phillips Panthers bounced back a day after a loss to rival Olympia with a 7-2 win against Ocoee April 19.
The victory for the Panthers (14-7) is their seventh in their past nine outings.
"It's always great to come back after a loss and get a win — especially a Metro win and against a really good opponent," head coach Mike Bradley said.
August Haymaker got the start and the victory for Dr. Phillips, allowing just one run against the Knights (15-6).
"August is our everyday shortstop, so besides the West Orange game last week this is only his second start," Bradley said. "He gave us a chance to win and he kept them off-balance."
The game was a 1-1 tie through three-and-one-half innings. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, sophomore Will Sullivan connected on a base hit that spurred a three-run rally that propel the Panthers to victory.
"We have high expectations for (Sullivan)," Bradley said. "He's starting to catch on fire and he's been doing a tremendous job at the plate."
Ocoee returns to action on Friday, when it will host Legacy Charter at 4 p.m.
Dr. Phillips also plays Friday, traveling to Apopka for a 7:30 matchup.
