Photos: Big 6th inning propels West Orange softball past Dr. Phillips -- Observer Preps

DR. PHILLIPS One moment, the Dr. Phillips softball team had taken a 2-1 lead over the defending champion West Orange Warriors in the bottom of the fifth inning April 20.

The next, the Warriors had rattled off eight runs, setting up what ultimately became an 11-2 victory.

Maggie Wheless drove in three RBIs for West Orange (21-3) and homered during West Orange's big sixth inning. Hailey Penrose and Morgan Arcia also each had a pair of RBIs for the Warriors.

Junior varsity call-up Katie Benedict got the win in relief for West Orange, with Landry Newgent getting the start and allowing two runs over four-and-two-thirds innings of work.

Deija Benn and Hannah Eden drove in the two runs for Dr. Phillips (19-7).
