After winning the Section 5 tournament, the Windermere Little League Softball Majors headed to the state championships, where they ultimately were defeated. Despite the defeat, Gabriela Campopiano played a strong game from her vantage point on the mound.
How long have you been playing softball?
Three or four years. It’s a fun thing to do, and it’s something to do in your free time.
What do you like about being the pitcher?
I love how you’re the one who sometimes controls the game. And if our players aren’t doing so well, then we bring them back up.
What’s the hardest part about being the pitcher?
If the bases are loaded, you can’t walk that next batter or run scores. And placing the ball is difficult.
What is your best pitch?
My fast ball.
What is one piece of advice from your coaches that’s helped your game?
If you’re down, don’t show it. Never show your emotions.
What is your favorite baseball team?
Boston Red Sox. My favorite player is Dustin Pedroia. I’m No. 15 because of him.
As a pitcher, what is it like when you’re the one at bat?
You have to think of how the pitcher has been doing. Sometimes emotions hit you, but when you get in that batters box, you have to have confidence.
How do you feel your team did this season?
I feel we did pretty good. We needed more hype because we weren’t running the bases, but overall we did pretty well. We did great in sectionals, but we needed to be more aggressive in states.
What do you like to do for fun?
Play with slime. I have a whole desk full of slime. I like the texture of it and how satisfying it is.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Teleportation. Then I could travel to practice and travel to stores.
If you could teleport to anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Hawaii or Bora Bora.
