WINDERMERE Dakota Rivers scored a game-high 17 points and the Windermere Wolverines held off a late rally by the Ocoee Knights to earn the program's first-ever district victory Friday night.
Rivers was one of three Wolverines to finish in double-figures in scoring against the Knights, with Windermere (3-1) riding a 21-8 advantage in the second quarter to a lead it would not relinquish.
"The second quarter, we lived at the rim and got great shots," head coach Mark Griseck said. "Ocoee — give them credit — they came back and got after us (in the second half) and just kind of chipped away, chipped away. All of a sudden it was a close game, but we stepped up to make plays to win."
Sadeem Blake led Ocoee (2-2) with 13 points. Jamel Pierre had 12 points, Derrick Rucker had 11 points and David Green had 10 points to round out four Knights in double-digits. Ocoee twice got within five points of the Wolverines in the fourth quarter, but could draw no closer.
Freshman Trey Moss continues to impress for Windermere, scoring 15 points in the win and junior Jeff Watson added 13 points on the night.
