After finishing up as the runner-up last year, the Panthers are bringing home the state title in a big 17-7 win over Atlantic (12-2-1, 6-0) on Saturday night at Camping World Stadium.
In what would be a game of defense, the Panthers (13-2, 4-0) found ways of scoring when it counted the most.
With 4:25 left in the first quarter, junior linebacker Japerri Powell scooped up a blocked punt and returned it for a touchdown in the opening score of the game. The extra point would make it 7-0.
Later, in the second quarter, the Panthers would hit a 30-yard field goal to make it 10-0, which would hold until the half.
After the defensive onslaught continued throughout the third-quarter, Panthers' junior linebacker turned the tide of the game when he hauled in an impressive pick-six with 9:53 left in the game. The extra point would make it 17-0.
Despite giving up a late touchdown with 3:38 on a quarterback keeper from Antoine Williams II, the Panthers stood up and finished off the game without worry, as they claimed their first ever state title.
