New classes coming to The Art Room

A new session of six-week art classes is kicking off at The Art Room starting on Feb. 27. This session will feature nine classes for adults and seven classes for children. Each class is held once a week and the goal is to give participants a positive atmosphere to be creative through art.

While the art studio offers a wide variety of classes throughout the year, not all the classes are offered each session.

Adult classes each last two hours. This session, the class list includes:

• Acrylic painting - a guide for beginner and advanced artists
• Collage - create art using dyed and stamped papers
• Life Drawing - drawing the human figure from skeleton to live model
• Oil Painting - learning color, value and paint application
• Portfolio - for students working on projects for art magnets or college classes
• Portrait Drawing II - drawing full-face portraits with a focus on head positions
• Watercolor - learning to paint wet in wet and wet in dry
• Watercolor techniques - exploring the ways to use watercolors
• Paint like the old masters - learning to copy greatest masterpieces

The children’s classes last one hour and teach kids a variety of basic artistic. The class list includes: 

• Kid’s mosaic - creating a wall hanging out of mosaics
• Let’s paint - learning color mixing, value and composition
• Let’s draw - learning proportion, shading and composition
• Let’s draw and paint cartoons - drawing their favorite characters
• Middle school art - helping middle-schoolers develop their talents
• Preschool - teaching basic art skills to 4- and 5-year-old kids
