Big sixth inning propels Ocoee baseball past Wekiva -- Observer Preps

OCOEE In a game that was much closer than the final score might indicate, the Ocoee Knights (1-0) scored a 10-4 victory against the Wekiva Mustangs (0-1) in the opening game of the Ocoee Invitational Tournament.

The Knights batted around and scored six runs in the sixth inning to propel them to their first win of the season.

“It felt pretty good,” Ocoee coach Bobby Brewer said, referring to his team's season-opening victory. “I think this is the first time since I’ve been here that we’ve had a senior-oriented ball club. …The seniors stepped up and made some big plays, had some good at bats.”

Ocoee opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as they put up four runs that started with an RBI-double from Keian Halls, which was then followed by an ground out from Colby Karr that drove in a run and respective RBI-singles from Hylan Hall and Ryan Brewer.

Wekiva would get on the board in the top of the fourth inning, plating their first run on an ground out that was followed up by a two-run double from Xavier Miller.

The game entered sixth inning tied at 4-4.

The Knights got their first two runners on base. A bunt from Caleb Andreaus led to an error from the Mustangs that plated two runs and let Andreaus get all the way to third base. Ocoee would go on to add four more runs on hits from Tyler Williams, Halls, Hall and Brewer, respectively, en route to their six-run win.

“Caleb Andreaus put that good bunt down for us, and they weren’t able to handle it, and the base hit broke the game open,” said Brewer.
