For the last several months, the Orange County Transportation Planning Division has been involved in a study of Sand Lake Road to assess its travel demands. To continue the ongoing conversation about road and potential improvements, the county will hold a community meeting at 6 p.m. tonight at the Dr. Phillips High School cafeteria, located at 6500 Turkey Lake Road, Orlando.

The meeting tonight will examine the preferred improvements for the road and allow the public to provide feedback before a proposal is presented to the Orange County Local Planning Agency and Board of County Commissioners.

A prior community meeting was held in October during which the attendees voted on traffic schemes to alleviate congestion on Sand Lake Road. The group was given three alternative solutions, and the majority of the attendees voiced their approval for the second option provided during the meeting.

Some of the proposed improvements for the second option included operational improvements from Rialto Road to Dr. Phillips Boulevard, implemented continuous right-turn lanes from Rialto to South Apopka-Vineland Road, a pedestrian and bike path, a new westbound directional left into Venezia and accommodations for I-4 Beyond the Ultimate for Rialto Road to Turkey Lake Road.

This study began in May 2016 and is expected to be completed this summer.
