The Ocoee girls basketball (14-5) team has won 11 of its past 12 games, and among several players who are playing very well has been senior combo guard Dynasty Carter.
Carter has put up scoring totals of 36, 29, 22 and 22 during a stretch of games that has included big wins over Olympia, Apopka, Evans and Poinciana.
Carter, who is signed to play her college basketball at Southern University in Louisiana, says her focus is heightened because she is aware her time as a varsity player is running low.
“Every time I go into a game, I think ‘okay, this is my senior year, this will be my last time playing this (respective) team,’” Carter explained. “So I just leave it all on the court because I’m not going to be able to play Jones or Wekiva again.”
For head coach Gina Solano, who has known several of her varsity players since they were in middle school, she has been most impressed with the growth her standout guard has demonstrated above the shoulders this season.
“Her all-around attitude this year, she has really matured a lot as a person and as a player,” Solano said, noting Carter has also improved academically this year. “We’re just so proud of her.”
