WINTER GARDEN The Winter Garden Squeeze were three outs away from a win in their home opener June 2 against the Leesburg Lightning.
It was not to be, though, as the Lightning pushed across four runs in the top of the ninth, taking what had been a 2-1 advantage for Winter Garden and turning it into a 5-2 victory for Leesburg.
Through the first eight innings, Squeeze pitchers Jarred Neal (4.0 innings pitched), Austin Butler (3.0 innings pitched) and Lance Johnson (1.0 inning pitched) had combined to allow just two hits. But the wheels came off in the ninth, though, and the Winter Garden club started the season with a loss.
Winter Garden next plays a trio of games against Altamonte June 5-7 and then plays a series June 8-10 against DeLand, with home games on June 6, June 9 and June 10.
