HORIZON WEST If you're planning on heading out to Summerport Village's March food truck night Saturday, March 4, bring a few extra dollars along to help support a local fourth-grader in his fight against cancer.
Daniel Roberts, a student at Keene's Crossing Elementary School, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma — a form of bone cancer — in his right femur in February. Daniel is set to undergo chemotherapy and then amputation of the malignant area. He will then be fitted for a prosthetic.
Daniel's classmates have stepped up to create a mini fundraiser for his family at the Summerport Village food truck night, which lasts from 5:30 to 9 p.m. They will be selling water bottles and bubbles for the kids. Additionally, they are making loom bracelets in exchange for donations.
Funds will go toward extended lodging for the family as Daniel undergoes treatment at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, along with meals, medical co-pays and other services not covered by insurance.
