OCOEE It took an extra inning, but the Legacy Charter baseball team was victorious in its first-ever game of district competition March 7, defeating Cornerstone Charter 4-3 in eight innings at Sorenson Field in Ocoee.
The walk-off victory came when junior catcher Gehrig Chambless drove in his second RBI of the day, with freshman Jacob Worley scoring from first base.
The Eagles (4-1) got a strong outing on the mound from freshman Justin LaGrasse, who allowed just five hits and two unearned runs through five-and-a-third innings of work. Seth Hughes, who pitched in relief for the final two outs of the seventh inning and the entire eighth inning for Legacy, got the win.
The Eagles, who were a first-year program in 2016, are in their first season of district competition in the FHSAA. Legacy is in the FHSAA's Class 3A District 3, along with Foundation Academy, Cornerstone, The Master's Academy, Orangewood Christian and Lake Mary Prep.
The Eagles will return to action Friday at 7 p.m. at Cornerstone Charter in Belle Isle.
