It’s still early in the season for high-school baseball, but already, Legacy Charter senior Seth Hughes has been leading the team through three games in hits. He’s also racked up four RBIs and a win on the mound.

What’s kept you playing baseball throughout the years?

Just the love of the sport — it’s so much different than all the other sports. It’s practically a game of chess, and to me, that’s just awesome.

What goes through your mind when you’re up at bat?

I just try to hit it right back up the middle or try to advance the runners if there are any. I’m just trying to bat for my team, not myself.

What’s it like being a senior on the team?

It’s a lot different. You have to be an example to the younger kids, and we do have a lot of younger kids (on the team), and they’re very good. The team as a whole, we’re definitely a family.

Where do you see yourself five years from now?

Probably graduating from FSU with a business degree or finance. I think that’s cool — I like numbers and stuff like that. But I want to go to Florida Gulf Coast University too, maybe try out for their baseball team and see how that goes.

Who’s your MLB team and favorite player?

The Dodgers, and I like Clayton Kershaw, because of how he pitches and his demeanor on the mound. I really look up to that, so I just try and copy that when I’m on there.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

Probably just not to focus on myself as much as the team, and it’s a team sport, not a “me” sport.

Disney or Nickelodeon?

100% Nickelodeon! Nickelodeon has always had those great, funny shows. Disney tries to develop characters too much, and I’m like, “Nah, man, I just want some jokes.” Spongebob and Rocket Power were the best ones.

Any hobbies outside of baseball?

I do go to New Smyrna Beach a lot and try to surf and skim board.

Any favorite musicians?

It’s a tie between Migos and something like Van Halen. I’m very diverse with music.

What are your top three Netflix picks?

“The Office,” “Shameless” and probably “30 for 30.”
