The Apopka Blue Darters and West Orange Warriors took the diamond last week in a pair of important district contests in the loaded District 9A-3.
The result of each game was different — the Blue Darters won the first, 10-3, the Warriors took the second, 6-4 — but the contests had a few similarities. Both games were won by the road team and both games saw that road team jump out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
In the first game March 14, Alex Otero drove in three runs and Brandon Ussrey homered for the Blue Darters. On the mound, Cameron Stewart got the win.
On March 16, though, West Orange southpaw Doug Nikhazy pitched five strong innings and the Warriors held off a late rally by Apopka for the 6-4 victory.
Both teams are participating in and hosting games in the Central Florida Spring Break Slam this week while Orange County Public Schools are on break.
