WINTER GARDEN Family drama will take center stage at Mimi’s Community Theater this weekend as the theater’s newest show, “Squabbles,” opens on Friday, March 24.
The play, set in the early 1980s, tells the story of a husband and wife who are preparing to have their first child. But their peaceful life gets interrupted when both of their parents are forced to move in with them, and the two in-laws refuse to get along.
“It’s like a real life family,” Russell R. Trahan, one of the actors in the show. “There are a lot of laughs, a lot of crying, but in the end, it’s family.”
Mimi’s Community Theater opened in 2016, and “Squabbles” is the second production it’s put on. While the first show was geared more towards children, “Squabbles” is more for adults.
Since the show is a comedy, one of the biggest challenges the actors faced was infusing the show with comedic moments.
“The question is, are you going to nail that delivery to get that laugh,” Trahan said.
For mostly everyone in the cast, there is no question that their off-stage chemistry has helped with their on-stage performance.
“We click so well together,” said Andres Salgado. “I met everyone for the first time doing this show, but now we’re like a family.”
The show opens on Friday, March 24, and runs until Saturday, April 1.
