Ocoee High senior Raven Johnson has pulled double-duty on the athletic front during her time on campus. Johnson has been a four-year member of the Knights’ flag football team and of the cheerleading team. A tenacious pass rusher during flag football season in the spring, Johnson has been a captain for Ocoee this season.

Coming out for flag football as a freshman, how did the sport compare to what you thought it would be?

I hadn’t played before I got to high school. It is much more intense than what I’d expected — the level of competition from the other teams was not what I expected.

Why did you have the desire to pick up a second sport in addition to cheerleading?

I wanted to stay active and not sit in the house.

What do you like about defense and playing the pass-rushing position?

I like trying to catch the quarterback. I try my best to get to her, and when I do, it feels like victory.

What is your favorite thing about being on the cheerleading team?

Getting the crowd pumped during the games.

What was it like to get the crowd pumped this past season, while the football team was playing well?

It felt really, really good. It was different from past years, where the football team hadn’t done that well, but this year, they did really well. It felt good.

What are you looking forward to the most about the summer?

Getting a job. I’m hoping to work for a clothing store.

What is your first big purchase going to be?

I’ll probably save up for a car.

What’s your favorite subject in school this year?

English. I like writing because I feel like I can express myself.

Finally, what do you think you’d like to do for a career?

I want to be a pediatrician. I love kids, and I feel like helping kids and helping them get better, that really touches my heart.
