DR. PHILLIPS The first game of the Dan Batchelor era for the Dr. Phillips High boys hoops program ended in a victory for the Panthers.
The assistant-turned-head coach made his debut when the Panthers (1-0) hosted the West Orange Warriors (0-1) Nov. 28. After trailing by one point at halftime, 33-32, Dr. Phillips outscored their visitors 52-28 in the second half and ultimately won 84-61.
The Panthers had five players finish in double figures: Daniel Love had 26 points, Abdoulaye Thiam scored 21 points, Juneau Anicette weighted in with 15, Dante Love added 14 and Jordan Poventud finished with 11 points.
West Orange's K.J. Simon had 22 points for the Warriors.
