Olympia High's Jeslyn Whitehead earned his third consecutive complete-game win — the latter two of which have been shutouts — as the Titans defeated rival Dr. Phillips 10-0 in five innings April 26 to end the regular season.
Whitehead — who has also earned wins against West Orange and Ocoee within the past two weeks — struck out five hitters and allowed just two hits in five innings of work.
Olympia (15-10) scored in four out of five at-bats, including five runs in the top of the fifth inning to set up the run-rule victory. Austin Vetter went 3-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the Titans at the plate.
The win keeps momentum going for Olympia ahead of next week's FHSAA Class 9A, District 3 Tournament. The Titans are the No. 2 seed for that tournament, and will face No. 3 West Orange May 2 in a district semifinal game with a playoff berth on the line.
Dr. Phillips (13-12) will face Lake Nona in the opening round of the 9A-4 Tournament April 30. The Panthers will have to win that game and one more to earn a playoff berth.
