Chrissy Fleming is a junior at Windermere High and an important member of the Windermere Wildfire 16U — Paulsen travel softball team that placed seventh in the nation recently. A utility player, Fleming can do it all and has committed to play her college softball at Furman University.
The mountain (Mount Rainier) was our favorite part. We climbed up, we weren’t going to go too far, and we found this tiny patch of snow. All of us, being from Florida, we all freaked out and rolled in the snow, (dived) in it and made snowballs. It was so much fun.
It was scary at first, because everything was all about the legacy — you didn’t want to start off bad with a bad reputation. There was a lot of pressure. But also, all the girls and being the first to do everything made it so much fun.
Definitely my sister (Amanda Fleming). I would practice with her, and then she just taught me how to fall in love with (softball). It helps you when you have someone with you to keep pushing you.
To be honest, I didn’t commit there because of her — if she didn’t go there, I would still go there. It’s a bonus having her there. We talked about it and she said, “Don’t make me the reason.” I would go up there to visit and I would just fall in love with it.
They’re my best friends. It’s hard to get together, (because) all of us live so far apart. But whenever we do we just click instantly.
Math — I’m a math nerd. Every question needs an answer. I hate in other subjects — like language arts and history — where everybody has a different answer. I need a set answer. It’s either right or it’s wrong.
So, at Windermere we have pre-majors, and I took biomedical, medical stuff. It was interesting but this year I’m taking AP calculus and AP physics — they’re more math. Medical stuff is cool, but now that I’m figuring it out, I kind of want to lean toward engineering. Definitely something in the math field.
Our family dinners are kind of rare, (because) we’re all so busy. But we always try to come together at home, and we’ll have venison, mashed potatoes and peas. That’s kind of like our family meal. It’s so good.
