APOPKA The Central Florida Christian Academy Eagles (13-2) jumped out to a 17-2 through one quarter and stayed ahead for the rest of the game, cruising to a 65-28 win over the Ocoee Knights (5-11) in the Metro vs. Florida Challenge Jan. 15 at Apopka High.
CFCA’s defense held the Knights offense to an average of just seven points per quarter, forcing 29 turnovers along the way — which led to plenty of easy baskets.
“Our defense has been growing,” said CFCA Head Coach Jonathan McClintock. “The boys are beginning to think of themselves as a five-man unit defensively — thinking about five guys stopping the ball on every possession, instead of just playing one-on-one. …They’re really starting to get connected and you get better results when you play as a group.”
Senior standout Dante Treacy led the Eagles with 20 points and had 11 of the Eagles' 21 total steals.
Ocoee will look to bounce back Jan. 20 when they take on the St. Francis Catholic Wolves (7-9).
CFCA will look to continue their hot start to the season, as they go on the road Jan. 16 to take on the Vanguard Panthers (4-8) in a crucial district contest.
