Sophie Cox joined Windermere Lakers Aquatics within the past year and has, over that time, steadily bought into the program — impressing coaches and teammates along the way. Over time, her dedication has become exemplary, and she turned some heads with a performance in a recent meet. After starting dead last in her 400-yard medley through 100 yards, Cox rallied and caught up to her competitors to win the race.
I was 7. I love swimming and I was always doing swim lessons. They told me I should try out (for a club team) because I had a really strong kick. I did and it’s been a lot of fun because I did it with my friends.
Almost a year ago. I like it here because it’s a community. We’re all a family here and it’s very supportive. We have very good coaches.
Possibly my attitude and also in my butterfly (stroke). … I didn’t really believe in myself before, and now that (my coaches) have helped me so much, I believe that I can do things.
I’m working toward getting my Future’s cut in my 400-yard IM and my 200-yard breaststroke and just being the best teammate I can be.
Definitely my coach Anna-Liisa Pold, Katie Ledecky and Michael Phelps. Also my coaches Alex Dehner and coach Kyle Goller.
I like to run and I like to bike for fun.
I would either like to be a forensic scientist or an occupational therapist.
I draw a lot. I like sketching.
Spending my time with my team and having great meets.
I would probably go to Texas, because that’s where my best friends are. … My two main best friends live there.
