When you've had your appearance in a state semifinal game pushed back four days, already — as has been the case with the West Orange Warriors in the FHSAA Class 9A Playoffs — what's one more day?
It's a rhetorical question, as neither the Warriors or their opponent have much of a say in the matter.
Originally scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Friday, May 18, the state semifinal for West Orange against Timber Creek has been moved back to May 19, May 22 and now May 23.
All of the scheduling changes have been tied to severe rain that has ravaged the Treasure Coast — specifically Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach, where the event is being hosted — over the past week.
The 2018 Florida High School Softball State Championships were supposed to have begun May 14, spanning six days for the sport’s nine classifications through May 19, but were instead rescheduled to take place between May 21-23.
The official start time for the Warriors state semifinal on Wednesday has not been announced, but it figures to be early in the day as the FHSAA Class 9A State Championship will also have to take place that day — meaning the winners of the state semifinals earlier in the day will each play a doubleheader.
