Grayson Wagner, a rising senior for the Foundation Academy football team, scored a whopping four touchdowns for the Lions in their 28-0 spring game victory against Lake Highland Prep — and all four came in the first half. Wagner had two receiving touchdowns, one rushing touchdown and also returned an interception for a score May 17.
Had you ever scored four touchdowns in a single game?
No — I only scored two total touchdowns last year. It was a surprise for me.
How would you assess the spring season, overall, for yourself and the team?
Our offense was just moving. We had a lot of big plays that brought us down the field, and I got to be the lucky one to finish (the drives) out. … We did a really good job moving the ball, and our defense didn’t allow any points.
How excited are you for the opportunity to play in the first official game at Foundation Academy’s on-campus field this fall?
I’m super excited to come play here and get to actually play on our campus — our own field.
What do you think is the outlook for your team this fall?
I definitely think we can make the playoffs. We’re getting some new guys in, and I’m excited about that. I think our team will be a great team together.
Which game during your career has been the most memorable so far?
Poinciana. Public school from Class 5A — we were down, but then we came back and we never quit. That was a fun game to be in.
Is there a former teammate you admire?
Kenny Ames. He helped me become a good receiver and showed me a lot of stuff.
Is there a receiver, professional or collegiate, whose game you try to emulate?
I really like watching Calvin Ridley. ... I can’t wait to see what he does in the NFL.
Do you have any idea of what you would like to do after high school?
I hope to go to college and maybe play football. I want to study business. … I want to flip houses around my area. ... I just watch a lot of TV shows on HGTV. My parents are always telling me to have fun when you have a job, so hopefully that would be a fun job that I could do. My dad (Roddy Wagner) has taught me a lot of stuff around the house.
Are you and your siblings, who also compete for Foundation Academy, competitive with one another?
Oh yeah — very much. We go at it a lot, but we always have fun.
