Ocoee football tops West Port in historic fashion | Observer Preps

The Ocoee High football program began playing varsity football in the fall of 2005.

During that span, the Knights have played more than 130 regular-season games — not to mention spring games or kickoff classics.

That said, the Knights had never played in a game like the one they won this past Friday in Ocala.

Ocoee set a program-record for points scored in a game in a 77-67 win over host West Port. The combined 144 points scored by the Knights and Wolves is three points shy of a state record set in 2013. 

The previous program-record for points scored in one game by Ocoee was 45, set in 2009.

Knights quarterback Nick Wright tossed four touchdowns in the air and ran for four more on the ground. He passed for 352 yards, completing 11-of-16 attempts, and rushed for 172 yards on 18 carries — an average of 9.6 yards per carry.

As a team, the Knights compiled a staggering 624 total yards. In addition to the wild offensive output, defensive back Tavion Wood had a 90-yard pick-six interception for Ocoee.

The historic win improves Ocoee to 3-4, overall, and 2-2 in FHSAA’s Class 7A, District 4. West Port fell to 1-6 and 0-4 in district play.
