In their first playoff game in school history, the Legacy Eagles beat The First Academy Eagles 33-6.

“I’m happy they played four quarters of football,” said Legacy head coach Trent Hopper of his team’s performance. “Effort was good all the way through. They really worked hard tonight.”

Up 6-0 with under a minute left in the first half, Quinten Corter intercepted a pass and ran it back to The First Academy’s 13 yard line. On the following third down, Jacob Worley threw a 13 yard touchdown pass to Elijah Post to extend Legacy’s lead to 12-0.

“It was 6-0 up to that point so everything was still tight,” Hopper said. 

“One mistake —  one way or another — could’ve swayed the momentum of the game so (the interception) was huge,” he said of the impact Corter’s interception had on the game. “It was probably the play of the night.”

Legacy would capitalize on the momentum from the end of the first half — scoring on their two drives of the second half to go ahead 27-0 after the third quarter, before they went on to beat TFA for the second time this season. Legacy had beaten TFA 35-18 earlier in the regular season.

Worley led the offense, as he threw three touchdowns. Justin Lagasse and Drew Birko each had a rushing touchdown.

Defensively, Legacy had a shut out until early in the fourth quarter and they forced three turnovers.

“Very proud,” Hopper said on how he felt about his defense’s performance. “Communication was great, they did their jobs on every play. I couldn’t be happier with them.”

Legacy will look to continue their playoff run when they face the Canterbury Cougars on Friday, Nov 2. The site of the game has yet to be determined.
